Bangladesh Contributes US$1 Million to Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund

Bangladesh has contributed US$1 million, equivalent to approximately NPR 152 million, to Nepal Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support ongoing relief, recovery and humanitarian efforts following the devastating flash floods and mudslides that struck the Nepal–Tibet border region of Rasuwa. The contribution was made on behalf of H.E. Tarique Rahman, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, as a gesture of solidarity with the Government and people of Nepal during this difficult time. State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Foreign Minister-in-Charge, Mr. Humaiun Kobir, conveyed the information to Mr. Ghanshyam Bhandari, Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh,
while handing over a letter from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed to Nepal’s Prime Minister, Mr. Balendra Shah. The financial assistance is intended to support Nepal’s ongoing humanitarian response, relief operations and recovery efforts following the sudden and unprecedented floods and mudslides that occurred on 26 August 2026. Earlier, on 1 September 2026, Foreign Minister-in-Charge Humaiun Kobir signed the Condolence Book opened at the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka, expressing Bangladesh’s deep sorrow and sympathy over the loss of lives and widespread damage caused by the disaster. Following the devastating flash floods of 26 August, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed Bangladesh’s full solidarity with the Government and the resilient people of Nepal. In his message to Prime Minister Balendra Shah, he conveyed profound condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the victims and families affected by the disaster.
ْ The President of Bangladesh, H.E. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, also expressed deep sorrow and sympathy over the extensive loss of lives and destruction of infrastructure caused by the floods and mudslides in a condolence message addressed to the President of Nepal. The tragedy also received significant attention in the National Parliament of Bangladesh.
During a parliamentary session held on 27 August 2026, the Parliament adopted a motion of condolence expressing profound grief and sympathy for the flood victims and those reported missing. Members of Parliament observed a one-minute silence and offered prayers for those who lost their lives in the disaster. The Parliament also urged the Government of Bangladesh to take urgent steps to provide necessary assistance to Nepal in response to the humanitarian crisis. Furthermore, on 27 August 2026, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Khalilur Rahman, held a telephone conversation with his Nepali counterpart, M. Shishir Khanal. During the conversation, he assured Nepal of Bangladesh’s readiness to extend all possible assistance as required and discussed the modalities for providing humanitarian support.
Meanwhile, the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kathmandu has remained in close coordination and liaison with Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs since the Bhote Koshi crisis of 26 August. H.E. Ambassador Shafiqur Rahman has personally supported and supervised the course of action and signed the Condolence Book at Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressing Bangladesh’s readiness to provide every possible support to the people of Nepal. Bangladesh’s initiatives to stand beside the people of Nepal during this critical period are expected to further strengthen the longstanding friendship, goodwill and close relations between the two neighboring and friendly nations.
